Tax Assessments Just Arrived!

Yes, it’s that time again…property assessments by the City. One thing that frequently gets misunderstood by the public is the timing of the assessment: the figure you received was based on the assessor’s valuation as of June 30, 2012, not today’s value. (And, based on the recent increase in prices, that’s probably a good thing unless you like to pay higher property taxes!)

The City of Denver has a new timetable for protesting property taxes—you now have over 6 months (198 days, to be exact) to protest your tax assessment. You can get more details online at www.denvergov.org, which outlines the procedure and deadlines, and you can actually submit your protest online. It’s pretty easy and Mary has had some success in the past getting her assessment reduced by challenging the comps that were selected.

If you need help, write us at TheGerwinGroup@DenverRealEstate.com. We can send you the MLS sheets (photos, specifics, etc) for the comps the City chose to give you some supporting documentation to make your case.
