Colorful History, Small Town Charm Complimented by Thoughtful Growth

Superior’s history entails one of the first coal mines in the area dating from the late 1800’s  The town was founded in 1896 and incorporated in 1904, with the name attributed to the “superior” quality of the coal mined in the area.

Around 1945, the coal mine was closed and the town evolved into a quiet ranching and farming community.  Today, Superior offers an outstanding variety of single-family and multi-family homes.  Future development plans include both commercial and retail development.

Superior is approximately four square miles in size with nearly 600 acres of parks, green space, and open space, plus 27 miles of trails.  The small town ambiance is ideal for raising a family, and excellent schools are complimented by numerous places of worship, a historical museum, and Ted Asti Park, which incorporates heirloom plants, trees, shrubs and other flora found in the 1930’s that are not as common today.

Purple Park includes Superior’s original jail and a homestead house, and Boulder County Open Space offers links to an extensive network of trails.  Superior is also just five minutes from Boulder and only 30 minutes from Denver.
