Southwest Suburbs

As much as anything, southwest suburban Denver is defined by its historic heritage, scenic lakes, lush parklands, and the South Platte River greenbelt and bike path.

The area includes or touches on Chatfield State Park and Reservoir, Cooley Lake at South Platte Park, Chatfield Arboretum, Deer Creek Canyon Park, Bear Creek Lake Park, Bear Creek Greenway, and Marston Lake.

A semi-rural ambiance pervades much of Southwest Suburban and its many inviting, family-friendly communities. Bow Mar, for example, enjoys lakeside frontage on namesake lakes Marston and Bowles, traditional New England-style homes, and a private beach. Bowles Lake provides a spectacular setting for sailing regattas, fishing, swimming, picnicking, holiday festivities, and sunset concerts.

Bow Mar’s original 1948 show home was supposedly inspired by the hit film “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House,” starring Cary Grant and Myrna Loy. A newer but no less elegant community wraps part way around nearby Bowles Reservoir.

Just north of Marston Lake, the luxury custom homes of the private Pinehurst Country Club wrap around the fairways of a lush 18-hole golf course set amidst rolling hills replete with mirrored ponds, mature trees, and magnificent views of the Front Range.

Reminiscent of the quaint New England Villages after which it was modeled, Olde Town Littleton boasts a charming historic district of renovated turn-of-the-century buildings now occupied by an eclectic selection of boutiques, bistros, gift shops, galleries, salons, and a theater. Olde Town’s Light Rail Station provides service between Mineral Avenue and Downtown Denver with intermediate stops at Englewood Town Center, Broadway at I-25, Alameda, and elsewhere.

No area of Southwest Suburban is more lushly verdant than the Columbine Valley, home to the stunning Columbine Country Club golf-course community and the exclusive Polo Reserve. Elegant homes, many with fairway frontage, line the quiet tree-lined streets that meander through Columbine Country Club where residents enjoy tennis, swimming, scenic parks, and biking trails.

The Columbine Polo and Equestrian Center is located in the Polo Reserve, an upscale community of exquisite multi-million dollar homes on large homesites bordering two international size polo fields and South Platte Park.

For those who desire something a bit more rural, historic Ken-Caryl Ranch, the westernmost community in Southwest Suburban, is nestled into a lovely secluded valley sandwiched between the Front Range foothills and the Dakota Hogback.

Meanwhile, distinctive established neighborhoods separated by broad greenbelts abound in the area bounded by Southwest Plaza Regional Mall, at Kipling and Bowles, and Aspen Grove Lifestyle Center, at Mineral and Santa Fe.
