Charlou

Curved, looping, and blind streets magnify the pastoral charm of Charlou, an exclusive enclave dotted with magnificent homes just east of Cherry Hills Village, where sightings of deer, fox, coyote, and pheasant are considered commonplace.

Although James B. Earl homesteaded the area in 1889, it wasn’t until 1978 that Bansbach, Perry, and Macy, Inc. acquired a portion of the land from Charlou E. Dake and established the Charlou neighborhood. Up until then, most of what is now Charlou was given over to agricultural uses, primarily wheat farming and grazing.

Typical of the fabulous estate homes here is the 10,000 square foot Tuscan Villa at 45 Charlou Circle constructed entirely of imported natural materials and finishes. Other architectural styles include French Country, Mediterranean, and classic ranches on expansive lots with mature landscaping.

Despite the rural setting, Charlou is just minutes from Hampden Avenue (Colorado 285) and the junction of I-25 and I-225 putting residents just a short commute from Downtown Denver, the Tech Center, and Park Meadows Mall. The Southeast Light Rail line will begin providing stress-free service to Downtown, the Central Platte Valley, and the Park Meadows area later this year.

Three beautiful and challenging golf courses are also close by: Glenmoor Country Club, Cherry Hills Country Club, and the Willshire Golf Course.

Like Cherry Hills Village, Charlou doesn’t allow commercial development; however, adjacent neighborhoods boast a wealth of shopping, fine restaurants, services, athletic facilities, and spas. Tennis and swim clubs also abound nearby.

Charlou belongs to the Cherry Creek School District, one of the leading districts in the country.
